Getting to UMFK: Travel and Shuttle Information

Closest Travel Hubs

Airport: The nearest airport is Presque Isle International Airport (PQI), approximately one hour south of the University. Visit the Presque Isle International Airport website.

Bus Stop: The closest bus stop is in Caribou, Maine, about 45 minutes south of the University. It is part of Cyr Bus Line. Visit the Cyr Bus Line website.

Taxi services and Ride-Share options (like Uber and Lyft) are extremely limited. You must arrange these services prior to your arrival in Presque Isle or Caribou. Note: When arranging transportation, be sure to specify your destination as Fort Kent, Maine, to receive an accurate fare quote.

UMFK Campus Shuttle Service

UMFK offers a limited shuttle service between campus and the Presque Isle Airport or the Caribou Bus Stop, for student arrivals and departures at the start and end of each semester on specific days, which are listed below and updated mid-semester.

Shuttle Policy

The UMFK shuttle service is ONLY available on the dates listed below. This service is only for currently enrolled UMFK students.

  • Reservation is Mandatory: You must reserve your ride at least 72 hours in advance. The shuttle will not run if no one has reserved a ride.
  • No Late Reservations: Do not expect to join a shuttle if you have not reserved your spot 72 hours ahead of time.
  • Vehicle Size: The size of the shuttle vehicle is determined by the number of reserved riders.

Shuttle Confirmation & Responsibility

  1. You will receive an immediate confirmation once your Shuttle Request Form is successfully submitted. (Be sure to fill in all required fields!)
  2. On the day of your arrival, check your maine.edu email for an update containing the driver’s name and cell phone number.
  3. You are responsible for notifying your assigned driver immediately about any changes to your schedule, including early or late arrivals, or cancelled flights/buses.
  4. You are responsible for communicating with the Residential Life Director about your return to on-campus housing.
