2022 Outstanding Alumni Award Recipient

Dr. Doris Metz, 1983 UMFK Graduate

Dr. Doris Metz (class of 1983) is the Outstanding Alumni awardee for 2022. A dedicated educator of future educators, Doris instilled in her students the skills that make great teachers, skills that can’t be learned from reading a textbook. As student teachers, her pupils were compassionate, kind, and sensitive to learners’ academic, emotional, and social needs. Doris’s students arrived for their internships eager to get involved in all aspects of school life and to build strong, authentic relationships with young learners. Nothing speaks louder about the abilities and effectiveness of an educator than the quality, dedication, and success of their students, and teachers who studied under Doris learned by her example to succeed in educating future generations. Because of her, these young educators have helped to build a stronger community in the valley, throughout the state, and the entire country.
