The U.S. Department of Education is the PLUS loan lender, and UMFK assists in administering the loan. The process is relatively quick. You can learn more about the Parent/PLUS Loan from the Federal Student Aid website. More information is also available at:
The following two steps are completed from the same webpage. More details are provided below.
Complete the Parent/PLUS Loan Application on the Federal Student Aid website. Your FSA ID is required to log into this website. You may apply for an FSA ID online. Follow the instructions provided.
After completing the Parent/PLUS loan application, you can click the Complete Loan Agreement for a PLUS Loan (MPN) link to complete this step. Follow the instructions provided.
When you sign a promissory note and receive loan funds, you agree to repay the loan according to the terms of the note.
Except in cases where the loan is discharged (for instance, in the death of the student), the loan must be repaid, with interest, even if the student does not complete the program, did not like the program, or is unable to procure employment after completing the program.
Note: all required paperwork must be completed (and the school informed by the Department of Education) before the school can consider and certify your loan request.
