Instructor Application Requirements and Process

If you are interested in becoming an Early College Concurrent Enrollment Instructor through a UMFK partnership, please submit the following items via email attachments to Margaret Guimond, Director of Early College at UMFK, to margaret.guimond@maine.edu by June 1st prior to the desired academic year of instruction.

For a complete letter explaining these steps (including templates for some of the requirements listed below), please directly send  an email requesting further information.

  • Cover Letter
  • Resume or C.V. outlining specific content expertise
  • Unofficial undergraduate and graduate copies of all transcripts
  • A proposed syllabus for the desired course

Note: The minimum instructor qualifications for having an application reviewed are as follows:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in the field of the desired course of instruction
  • A Master’s degree in the field — or a related field — of the desired course of instruction

Note: If in the process of obtaining a Master’s degree, please include a supporting narrative in your cover letter describing the timeline of this goal, with any additional relevant and professional experience highlighted.

Typically, applications can take up to eight weeks to be reviewed. If approved, the instructor will receive an official letter from the UMFK Early College Office, which will be sent to the instructor applicant, as well as a school administrator notifying them of approval and next steps.

What is Required of Partner High Schools?

  • All instructors must be willing to engage in content-based conversations with a faculty liaison at UMFK each time the course is offered at their school. These conversations occur to provide content support and will also allow our program to meet NACEP Early College Accreditation requirements for each course that is offered through any partnership school. These conversations will include (but not limited to): offering new instructor training and support as needed, syllabus conversations, discovering paired assessment tools, offering professional content development and support, conducting site visits (in person or virtually), and any other reach-outs as needed for program functionality.
  • Instructors are also required to engage in a certain amount of baseline tasks through ExplorEC (the UMS Early College portal), and interactions with the UMFK Early College Office. These tasks will include (but may not be limited to): assisting students with registration as needed, verifying college rosters, assist in relaying important college-based deadlines to students (drop, withdrawal, etc.), uploading grades, and annually submitting their updated course syllabus at least one month prior to course start date.
  • Support from administrative leadership and guidance departments is also a very important piece of early college partnerships. There will be consistent communication, as needed, for each course offered at your school.
