Brief Biography

Maisie Plourde joined the University of Maine at Fort Kent in 2019 and currently serves as an Associate Professor of Nursing. She teaches didactic and online courses across BSN, MSN, and DNP programs, focusing on psychiatric-mental health nursing, foundations of nursing practice, advanced practice, and evidence-based care. She is actively involved in curriculum development, accreditation preparation, and mentorship of undergraduate and graduate nursing students. Dr. Plourde actively practices as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Northern Maine Medical Center, delivering comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, and medication management for adult and geriatric patients across inpatient psychiatric and long-term care settings. She works closely with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized treatment plans, manages both acute and chronic psychiatric conditions, and provides education on mental health care to patients, families, and healthcare staff. Her nursing career encompasses diverse clinical settings, including long-term care, medical-surgical units, the operating room, endoscopy, postpartum care, and adult psychiatric care. She began her professional journey as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Northern Maine Medical Center and advanced through roles as a registered nurse and now nurse practitioner. Dr. Plourde earned her BSN from the University of Maine at Fort Kent in 2013, her MSN in Nursing Education from Chamberlain University in 2019, her DNP from Regis College in 2023, and completed a Post-Master’s Certificate as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at UMFK in 2024.
