Bestselling Crime Novelist Paul Doiron to Speak at UMFK Visiting Author Series

The University of Maine at Fort Kent Visiting Author Series will welcome NewYork Times bestselling crime novelist Paul Doiron at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1,in Nadeau Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Doiron will read from his recent work “Storm Tide,”and discuss his writing process and career as an author. A question-and-answersession will follow the reading, and copies of his books will be available forpurchase.

Doiron is the author of the critically acclaimed MikeBowditch mystery series set in the Maine woods. His debut novel, “ThePoacher’s Son,” won both the Barry Award and the Strand Critics Award forBest First Novel. It was also nominated for Edgar, Anthony, Macavity, andThriller awards, and won the Maine Literary Award for Best Fiction of 2010.

In 2019, Doiron received his second Edgar Awardnomination for “Rabid,” a digital and audio short story featuring hischaracter, Charley Stevens.

A Maine native, Doiron graduated with a degree inEnglish from Yale University and holds a Master of Fine Arts in creativewriting from Emerson College. He served as editor in chief of “Down East: TheMagazine of Maine” before stepping down to write full-time. He currently holdsthe title of editor emeritus.

Doiron is a past chair of the Maine Humanities Counciland a former member of the Maine Arts Commission. He is also a Registered MaineGuide specializing in fly fishing. He lives along a trout stream in coastalMaine with his wife, Kristen Lindquist.
