Today we celebrated the next generation of nurses at the 2026 UMFK Nursing Pinning Ceremony on the UMFK campus.

The Nursing Pinning Ceremony recognizes academic achievement, empathy, compassion, resilience, leadership, and a commitment to caring for others. We are proud of each graduate for the dedication they have shown throughout their journey and excited to see the impact they will make in our communities.

Deb Hedeen and Erin Soucy welcomed students and their families to this celebration of their profession. Guest speaker Susan Dubay, UMFK director of student support services, shared remarks of overcoming obstacles to achieve success and congratulated students on their achievements.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026! 💙

Last night at the UMFK Nursing Pinning Ceremony on the University of Maine at Presque Isle campus, six UMFK students were pinned by their loved ones in a long-standing tradition for nurses completing their education. The pinning ceremony symbolizes the transition from student to professional nurse.

Dr. Stacy Thibodeau, RN, organized the event, which featured remarks from UMPI President Dr. Ray Rice and UMFK President Dr. Deb Hedeen, nursing faculty, and guest speaker Kelley McIntyre. Jason Parent received the Community Leader Award, and a highlight of the evening was a special message from Dr. Jean Watson. Congratulations to the Nursing Class of 2026!

Day in and day out, nurses are some of the hardest working healthcare professionals. This week is International Nurses Week, a time to say thank you and celebrate everything nurses do for us! At UMFK, we're especially proud of our nursing students who are working hard to become the next generation of providers that we all rely on. Be sure to thank a nurse this week!
