UMFK men's soccer cracks top 10 in weekly polls

September 7, 2010

The University of Maine at Fort Kent men’s soccer team climbed up two spots to No. 9 as the national office released the first regular season 2010 NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll on Tuesday evening. The Bengals opened their season with three convincing shutout wins and will open Sunrise Conference play this Saturday when they host Vermont Technical College. UMFK will then travel to Maine Maritime Academy on Sunday for their final non-conference game of the season.

Coach Bill Ashby’s Bengals returned nine of eleven starters this season and have also added solid depth to their roster including forward Amine El Moumen (Casablanca, Morocco) who is tied with senior captain Andre Anderson (Manchester, Jamaica) with 13 overall points. UMFK reached a school record number five ranking in 2009 and are hoping to climb closer to the top in 2010.
Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) remained No. 1 team in the poll with 21 first-place votes and UMFK Alumni Coach Wulf-Dieter Koch’s Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) team was knocked out of Top 25 after an impressive 100 straight rankings.
