Works shown in the exhibition "Shades of Light" at the UMFK Blake Library Gallery

October 25, 2010

The University of Maine at Fort Kent Blake Library Gallery will host an exhibition entitled “Shades of Light” by Canadian artist Lynn Cyr. The collection of paintings will be on display from Tuesday, November 2 through Sunday, November 29.

An opening reception to meet the artist will be held on Friday, November 5 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Blake Library Gallery.
“Shades of Light” is a solo exhibit of original oil paintings by artist Cyr. The exhibit contains her latest works, including many colorful still lifes, as well as a few landscapes from trips she has taken in recent years.
Cyr, a native of St-Leonard, New Brunswick, likes to challenge herself by finding inspiration in different subjects. It could be a combination of colors and shadows seen reflected on a bowl of fruit, or the unique way she composes a design to make her simple subjects tell a story. But no matter the subject or medium she chooses, it’s no question that her work follows a consistent theme: color and light.
As a child, her favorite "toys" were always Crayola crayons and Play-Doh. There was never a time when she was ‘not’ an artist. Even when it came time to go to college and choose a career path, she ended up in graphic design. She followed her heart, and in 2002, she finally started to pursue the fine arts as more than just a hobby. Mostly a self-taught artist, she relies on books, videos, workshops, and classes as learning tools, along with studying the works of other artists.
Cyr is an award-winning artist and has sold many paintings throughout the United States, Canada, and around the world. Her working studio and gallery is situated on Lac Baker, on the border of Quebec, New Brunswick and Maine. The works on display offer a wide range of prices, inviting all art collectors to take one of her unique works home.
Lynn Cyr’s collections can be viewed in the Blake Library Gallery Mondays through  Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sundays from 1 to 9 p.m.
