UMFK to celebrate Latino Heritage month with Salsa Magic

October 1, 2004

In celebration of Latino Heritage Month, the University of Maine at Fort Kent will present the Magic of Jay and Lee on Friday, October 22, at 7:00 p.m. in the Fox Auditorium followed by Salsa Magic at 9:00 p.m. in the Bengals Lair.

Sponsored by UMFK student activities, the event will feature the magic of Jay and Lee with their assistant Floricita. The group has performed all over the globe showcasing interactive comedy and illusion.

They will wow the crowd with live animals, Lee swallowing needles, Jay is squished flatter than a pancake and the beautiful Floricita visually cut in half.

Their show incorporates the latest rage in music, intelligent lighting, dance, hysterical audience participation where the audience members become the magicians.

Performing for over a decade, and over eight years as a team, Jay and Lee and Floricita have earned literally dozens of awards in magic, including first prize in Adult Stage Magic presented at the 2000 International Brotherhood of Magicians Gold Medal Stage Contest, as well as awards in public speaking and Latin dance.

Their trend-setting magic has been featured on Norwegian Cruise Lines, Las Vegas show rooms, as well as several television credits including ABC-TV and The Fox Family Channel.

Salsa Magic is an interactive show where Floricita and Lee teach participants how to dance salsa and merengue. The lessons are followed by a dance party with contests such as the booty shaking contest.

"The Magic of Jay and Lee is an act that was voted Best Event of the Year by the UMFK Student Senate last year," said Stephanie Cote, assistant director of residential life and student activities.

The performance is free and open to the public. Adult material may not be suitable for minors. For more information contact Cote at 834-7850.
