November 3, 2008

The University of Maine at Fort Kent will offer a desktop publishing course during the 2009 spring semester.

The course will be offered on Tuesdays and Fridays from 3 to 4:50 p.m. John Richardson, UMFK adjunct faculty, will teach from the Fort Kent campus. The three-credit class will begin on January 23, 2009 and last for fifteen weeks. Attendance at all class sessions is mandatory.

Student will explore the principles and concepts of desktop publishing, as they apply to print and electronic media, and gain knowledge and design skills in the use of desktop publishing software and portfolio creation.

The course will cover creating and editing publications; designing newsletters; tri-fold brochures; e-mail publications; and quick web site construction.  It also will cover technical information such as color choice, layout, audience, photo types, and fonts, among others.

“The class is designed to give desktop publishers of all levels a great starting point or a really concise review and upgrade of standard practices and knowledge,” said Richardson.
