The University of Maine at Fort Kent Bengal men's basketball team, hosting their annual Bengal Tip-Off Classic season opening tournament, defeated Mt. Allison University of Sackville, New Brunswick, 62-54 November 12 and dropped a 74-57 decision to St. Thomas University of Fredericton, New Brunswick, November 13.
Pacing the Bengals in Saturday's win were Rytis Kriunas of Vilnius, Lithuania with 17 points, Billy Russo and David Russo of Wilton with eleven points each, and Darius Parker of Wytipitlock with ten points.
In Sunday's loss to 2-0 St. Thomas, Kriunas led the Bengals with 19 points while Billy Russo scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for 1-1 UMFK.
Russo was named to the all-tourney team.
The Lady Bengals lost to Mt. Allison University of Sackville, New Brunswick 76-70 in overtime on November 11 and dropped a 60-57 overtime decision to St. Thomas University of Fredericton, New Brunswick on November 12.
In the first round game against Mt. Allison University, Amanda Davis of Wiscasset had a game- high 22 points and Nicole Corbin scored 21 points to lead the Bengal scorers.
St. Thomas University rallied from a 15 point deficit on Saturday to beat UMFK in overtime.
Davis scored a game-high 20 points for the Bengals while Corbin tallied 14.
Davis was named to the all-tournament team.
