UMFK Bengal soccer players earn Sunrise Conference honors

The University of Maine at Fort Kent men's and women's soccer teams have earned numerous individual awards for the play on the field this past fall.

On the women's side for Coach Lucas Levesque's Lady Bengals, four players earned a spot on the All-Conference Team.

Forward Maria Williams of Bath; midfielder Liz Clavette of Madawaska; defensive player Megan Watson of Herman and goalkeeper Heather Hartman of Fort Kent were all named to the team, which is voted on by the head coaches in the conference.

The Lady Bengals finished the year with a record of 12-6 losing in the conference championships to Lyndon State College.

The men's team, which enjoyed another successful season, placed six players on the All-Conference Team.

Forwards Rob Rochester of Fort Kent and Jules Bodo of Yaounde, Cameroon; midfielders Donatas Sumyla of Vilnius, Lithuania and Noe' Aparacio of Burgos, Spain; defensive player Sean Platt of Keene Valley, New York and goalkeeper Nick Thibodeau of St. Francis all made the team giving UMFK the most members in the conference.

Thibodeau was also named Defensive Player of the Year for his play in goal.

Coach Larry Murphy earned Coach of the Year honors for taking over the team and leading them back to the conference finals for the third straight year.

The Bengals finished the season at 6-7-1 losing to Lyndon State in the conference finals.
