UMFK Scholastic book fair a huge success

November 17, 2006

The University of Maine at Fort Kent held its annual fall Scholastic book fair on November 7, 8 and 9 and it was a huge success.

The book fair, sponsored by the Student Teacher Education Professional Society (STEPS), was open to the public and featured books for all ages and all interests.

Sales from the three-day fair totaled $2,388.47. Fifty percent of the proceeds from the book fair were donated to Blake Library in the amount of $1,194.24, which will be used to purchase books and educational resource materials.

Dr. Terry L. Murphy, UMFK professor of education, sends her appreciation to all who volunteered to work at and purchased books from the fair.

This is the first year that Scholastic offered seven book fair merchandise certificates, each valued at $25.00, since book fair began in 1994. The lucky winners for the certificates are as follows: Clarence Pittenger, Warin Ding, Terry Kelly, Sara Kay Michaud of Fort Kent; Channa Elliot of Frenchville and Andrea Fanjoy of Pictou County, Nova Scotia.
