UMFK students active in the community

November 13, 2006

The University of Maine at Fort Kent students from Assistant Professor Paul Gebhardt's Computer Graphic Arts class created the designs for a poster, brochure and newspaper ad for the upcoming Fort Kent Chamber of Commerce & University of Maine at Fort Kent Craft fair.

The students worked both individually and in teams to brainstorm ideas, work out sketches, create rough drafts and then finalize the project.

The practice of creating drafts and having them reviewed by the Greater Fort Kent Area Chamber of Commerce's craft fair committee was a major part of the learning process for the students.

"This was an opportunity for the students to do a "service learning" project in which students take skills they are learning in the classroom and apply them to a real life experience," notes Professor Gebhardt.

The following students were instrumental in the project: John Blanchette of New Sweden; Lee Dubois, Nicole Dubois, Cliff Foster, Fred Lizotte and Doug Morin of Fort Kent; Haley Johnson of Lake Placid, New York; Trokon Khoury of Madawaska, Nathan Perkins of Buckfield, Maine and Steven Young of Frenchville.
