The University of Maine at Fort Kent will once again offer a Nursing Discovery Camp this summer. The session will run from Sunday, June 24 through Thursday, June 28.
The camp is sponsored by UMFK's Nursing Program and with special support from Northern Maine Medical Center.
The nursing camp is intended primarily for students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior years of high school. A student interested in any aspect of the nursing profession, should consider attending.
The cost of the camp includes materials, such as hospital scrubs, meals, and lodging.
Participants in the nursing camp will be introduced to all of the wonderful opportunities of nursing. They will have the chance to job shadow alongside nurses at Northern Maine Medical Center and experience college life on the UMFK campus.
The students will learn Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR), work with patient simulators, and learn first aid skills. While at the hospital, students will visit different departments including the emergency room, operating room, obstetrical unit, medical & surgical units and the intensive care unit.
Students will explore a profession that is both exciting and rewarding. They will learn to promote healthy living for individuals and families and become leaders in the health care team.
The first 16 applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a non- refundable $50.00 deposit requirement. Register now. Lodging arrangements can be made for parents for the night of June 24, if needed.
Deadline for accepting applications is Friday, May 18, 2012. Students may register on-line at: http://www.umfk.maine.edu/nursing/camp/ (link no longer available) or call (207) 834-7580.
