UMFK employees recognized for years of dedicated service

The University of Maine at Fort Kent honored members of its faculty and staff for their service to the campus community at a recent campus luncheon.

Special awards were given to employees who have been at UMFK for five, fifteen, twenty and thirty years of service.

President Richard W. Cost presented the honors following touching and humorous tributes to honorees by fellow faculty and staff.

The following individuals received an award for five years of service: Sofia Birden, electronic and information resources librarian; Steven Bossie, building and grounds maintenance worker; Eric Bouchard, building and grounds maintenance worker; Anne Chamberland, library assistant II; Anthony Gauvin, assistant professor of e-commerce; Neal Jandreau, assistant web administrator; Sara Kay Michaud, certified athletic trainer and Angela Theriault, learning skills and math specialist.

Fifteen year service awards were presented to the following individuals; Rachel Albert, vice president of academic affairs and dean of faculty; Nicholas Hawes, assistant director of Acadian Archives/Archives acadiennes and Lisa Ornstein, director of Acadian Archives/Archives acadiennes.

David Hobbins, professor of forestry and environmental studies was recognized for twenty years of service.

Thirty years of service honorees were Jeffrey Plourde, building and grounds maintenance worker and Steven Selva, professor of biology and environmental studies.

Also recognized were to two University employees who are retiring this year after 12 years of service. George Diaz, director of academic and counseling services and Viola Pelletier, worked as Cook II for UMFK's dining service for 12 years. Each retiree was honored with an award and presented with a UMFK rocking chair.

In addition to the employee service awards, Caro Williams, assistant director of residential life and wellness presented the Healthiest Tiger Award to Theresa Roodes, building and grounds maintenance worker. Jody Uerling, vice-present of the student senate presented a Special Student Senate Award to Camille Theriault, building and grounds maintenance worker crew leader.
