March 7, 2003

Aaron Bernstein, production associate for the University of Maine at Fort Kent's theatre program recently served as technical director for the Northern Maine Regional Drama Festival held at the Caribou Performing Arts Center.

The Maine Principals Association sponsors the event which brings together drama students from throughout Aroostook and Penobscot counties. This year's competition brought eight schools from as far south as Howland to perform their productions at the event.

Bernstein is not new to this position as he was recruited to serve as technical director at last year's competition which was held on the UMFK campus. He then went on to assist as technical director at the state competition, also held in Caribou at the Performing Arts Center.

Bernstein, recruited three of his work study students and a volunteer to assist him with this year's festival competition. Jessica Daigle, Charles Gagne and Jason Nicolas all of Fort Kent and Julie Daigle of Wallagrass, helped perform the technical duties required to make the productions run smoothly.

A 1996 graduate of Fort Kent Community High School, Bernstein attended UMFK from 1991 to 1994. He worked in the Fox Auditorium during his high school and college years and prior to being hired in 2002 as production associate, he performed lighting and sound duties for meetings, symposiums and performances at the university.

Bernstein is a member of the Jerry T. Band and French Toast where he performs weekly throughout the Northeast and Canada. He also maintains the musical equipment and assists with the bands' booking and publicity.
