The University of Maine at Fort Kent lady Bengals were victorious this past weekend in the Sunrise Conference, played in Lyndonville Vermont.
Entering as the fourth seed, the lady Bengals met Vermont's College of St. Joseph's in the final four. Julie Clattenburg led the Bengals with 24 points and April Allen added 10. Dana Lemon added with five assists for a Bengal victory of 66-63 in Saturday's game.
"Coming in the fourth seed the team stole the hearts of the crowd. In turn the Lady Bengals gave them a highly scaled exciting performance," said John Murphy, vice president for administration at UMFK.
The Lady Bengals shot 76 percent from the foul line during the Sunrise Conference Tournament.
"We worked hard and played good defense both games. We had eight girls that gelled and worked as a team," said Lucas Levesque, first year coach for the lady Bengals.
On Sunday, April Allen led UMFK with 16 points and eight rebounds, Heidi Fisher had 12 points and six boards for UMFK. Julie Clattenburg had nine points and six rebounds as the Bengals captured the Conference title 52-48.
