The people and stories of the "Iditarod of the East", Fort Kent's annual Can-Am Sled Dog Races, will be featured on a special on-location edition of the Valley's View on Sunday, March 10 at 6:30 p.m. on WAGM-TV.
The half-hour contemporary, public affairs discussion program, produced by the University of Maine at Fort Kent and Northern Maine Medical Center, will focus on the people instrumental in hosting the event, which draws thousands to the Fort Kent Main Street start, and is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.
Segments of the program with host and UMFK university relations director Jason Parent, will feature interviews with key event organizers, special guests visiting Fort Kent during this past weekend's Can-Am Crown Sled Dog Races, and others who make the races happen. The production was taped as mushers departed from Main Street in Fort Kent.
"We are very excited about this program. We have taken the "Valley's View" completely out of the studio and literally onto the street. We wanted to capture all the excitement of downtown Fort Kent during the special tenth anniversary Can Am weekend," said Parent.
In addition to the Can-Am interviews, the "Valley's View" will include the two regular feature series "Your Health Care Connection," produced by NMMC and the "College Question," produced by UMFK.
Full sponsors of the Valley's View include MBNA, NorState Federal Credit Union, Miller's Department Store, The St. John Valley Partnership, and Quigley's True Value. Gossamer Press and Northland Telephone are half sponsors.
