The University of Maine at Fort Kent will offer a week-long French camp for youth from Monday, June 30 to Thursday, July 3. Classes will be held each day from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the UMFK Sports Center.
The program is designed to teach children, ages five to eight, to learn and use the French language.
Students will participate in various activities which include arts and crafts, story telling, games, field trips and singing. They will bring home new vocabulary and various fun projects.
The cost of the camp is $40 per child. Lunch is not provided and space is limited.
The camp is a fun way for children to also practice skills they may have learned at home or in school. The program continues to be popular with local residents, as well as visitors who spend their summers in the Valley.
For several years, the French camp has served to educate students about local culture and history, as well as to prepare them for being part of a global community. Acquisition and reinforcement of language skills will enrich a child’s cultural awareness and appreciation.
