UMFK Blake Library to host exhibit by Debbie Dolan
June 27, 2011
The University of Maine at Fort Kent’s Blake Library Gallery will feature the work of local artist Debbie Dolan’s exhibition, entitled “A Brush with Inspiration” from Wednesday, July 6 through Friday, August 12.
An opening reception for the exhibit will be held on Thursday, July 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. to provide the public and the campus community with an opportunity to meet the artist.
A Brush with Inspiration is a private collection of fine art oil paintings spanning more than 14 years. The exhibit is an illustration of how the gift of fine art oil painting in her life has inspired Dolan to share the experience with others. This is Dolan’s first solo exhibit.
“This area is very conducive for my creative spirit as an artist to come out from within me and onto the canvas,” noted Dolan.
She implemented a creative process developed over the years to include: detailed brush strokes; paint blending; and various other artistic techniques to produce the colors and textures shown throughout the collection.
“It is my hope that “A Brush with Inspiration” will encourage other people to discover their own gift of inspiration and share it with others,” said Dolan.
Included in the exhibition are landscapes, nature scenes, religious themes, and still life.
Dolan’s inspiration came from the subjects of the work itself, a variety of images, imagination, and a genuine love for the gift of oil painting.
“As a child, I was always interested in art. However, it was not until I was an adult that I discovered my love and talent for oil painting through art classes taken by well-known instructor Gert Thibodeau,” added Dolan.
Her instructor has been and continues to be a source of inspiration, knowledge, encouragement, and support, as Dolan continues to grow in her ability as an artist.
The art classes that Dolan has taken part in over the years, also has given her confidence, support, and inspiration through the encouragement and talent of other artists’ experience and skills.
Ms. Dolan is a 1994 graduate from UMFK and resides in Fort Kent.
