The University of Maine at Fort Kent will be offering an intense weeklong language course entitled French Review, July 7 through July 11, on the UMFK campus. The instructor for this course is Lise Pelletier.
Participants will improve their communication skills and grammar skills, and gain a better understanding of the French language, including pronunciation. They will also develop an increased understanding of available Francophone literature.
The cooperative learning environment course will meet for the five days from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Participants will use computer software, films, readings and discussion of literature as well as field trips to selected locations in the community.
The course is open to UMFK students, the Saint John Valley community, and French teachers are especially encouraged to attend.
"Although primarily intended for teachers, the course will be of interest to parents and others with at least a beginning understanding of the French language." said Donald Eno, academic outreach coordinator.
The three credit hour course may count towards recertification requirements or continuing education credits for teachers. Teachers should check with their school department for information.
Le Club Francais, a local group which fosters appreciation of Franco American and Acadian culture and language, is supporting elementary school teachers attending this course, and will provide funding, including tuition and fees.
