The University of Maine at Fort Kent has hired Steve L. Michaud as web technician.

"I look forward to working with Steve. He is energetic and brings with him experience in both graphics and web design," said Leslie Kelly, UMFK's assistant director of the library.

Prior to joining UMFK, Michaud was self-employed as a freelance web designer. He developed a web site for the Northern Door Inn and Magnolia Homes, Inc. in Houston, Texas. Michaud also developed a web version of the book entitled Acadian Culture in Maine.

Michaud also worked for the Maine School District #27 as a full-time computer technology aide where he provided in-person technical support for students and staff. Previously, Michaud worked for ATX II, LLC in Caribou by giving technical support to customers using ATX tax preparation software.

Michaud graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 2003 and received a bachelor of arts degree in new media. He was awarded the University of Maine's presidential academic achievement award. While he was a student, Michaud designed a departmental web site for the Franco-American Studies Program and created a web site for the Franco-American Centre. He assisted in technical support for students, faculty, and staff in various departments on campus.

In 2002, Michaud held a work-study job in the web services department at UMFK where he developed UMFK's on-line virtual tour and worked to enhance the look and detail of the University campus map. Michaud also aided campus faculty members in multimedia projects and programs.

Michaud resides in Fort Kent.
