The University of Maine at Fort Kent's Summer Theatre will perform Moliere's “The Learned Ladies” at the Fox Auditorium on the UMFK campus from Thursday, July 31, 2014 through Sunday, August 3, 2014. Performances will be at 7 p.m. on July 31, August 1, and August 2. A matinee performance will be offered at 2 p.m. on August 3.
The show's duration is approximately 90 minutes.
Moliere's comedies are known for their biting wit and hilarious commentary on the follies of human nature, and “The Learned Ladies” is no exception. The show explores the conflicts that arise within a wealthy family when three of the ladies become obsessed with a horrible poet and begin shunning all physical concerns for academic and spiritual ones.
“As one might expect from the inventor of the French farce, there is some truly outlandish behavior in this play,” says Aaron Bernstein, director of the production. “Expect to laugh until you can't see straight.”
The cast includes community members of all ages.
Tickets are available for $10 at the door, or by calling (207) 834-7893 and leaving a message. Admission is free for UMFK students with valid ID.
