The University of Maine at Fort Kent will host the Northern District (Aroostook County) Scripps National Spelling Bee competition for 6, 7, and 8 grade students on Friday, February 10 at 6 p.m. in Fox Auditorium.
The 2012 competition is sponsored by Maine School Administrative District #27, under the supervision of Ralph Caron, vice principal at Fort Kent Elementary School.
The winners of the Northern District spelling bee will continue on to the state of Maine competition. The state winners advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee near Washington, D.C. during the week of May 27 to June 1.
Joe Zubrick, UMFK professor of Oral Communications & Theatre, will serve as bee master for the competition. Three UMFK students will serve as judges.
The spelling bee is free, and open to the public.
