UMFK University/Community Chorus returning after a decade absence

January 10, 2003

The University of Maine at Fort Kent will once again, after a long absence, be offering the St. John Valley community the opportunity to sing as part of a choral group beginning in January.

The University/Community Chorus will begin meeting on Thursday evenings, beginning January 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Fox Auditorium on the UMFK campus.

The University/Community Chorus was an institution on the UMFK campus from the late 1960's through the early 1990's. Faculty and staff thought the timing was right to reinstate the chorus.

Scott Brickman, associate professor of music and Charles "Chuck" Closser, professor of oral communication and performing arts will share music conducting and instructing duties.

The chorus is open to all singers of high school age and older. Those who wish may receive academic credit for taking chorus, but it is open to non-students as well.

If you enjoy singing, you are encouraged to join the group by just showing up on January 16. A concert is scheduled for late April and will feature many types of American Folk Music.
