UMFK designs and will maintain new Maine Athletic Conference website

February 8, 2002

Keeping current on the latest sporting events between colleges and universities in the seven-school Maine Athletic Conference and checking out updated player statistics are now just a click away thanks to the efforts of one of the conference's member institutions.

The University of Maine at Fort Kent, and more specifically assistant web administrator Neal Jandreau, have designed, and will keep current, the official Internet presence of the MAC.

Complete with schedules, standings, athlete honor recognition listings, and important information on the organization, the new presence on the World Wide Web will provide MAC with greatly increased visibility and serve as an instantaneous vehicle for disseminating information.

"Getting our website up and running has been a priority for the conference. It will not only provide those wanting to learn about the organization a great introduction to MAC, but also provide students, faculty and staff at member colleges and universities the opportunity to keep updated on the latest happenings on a regular basis," said Rene Cloukey, MAC information director.

Features include sections devoted to each of the ten different men and women's competitive MAC sports, including basketball, soccer, softball, baseball, cross country, volleyball, field hockey, and golf.

In addition to offering information on MAC and upcoming events, the site includes links to the official websites maintained by each of the member universities, UMFK, University of Maine at Presque Isle, University of Maine at Machias, University of Maine at Farmington, Husson College, Thomas College, and St. Joseph's College.

"We wanted to design this website to be as user-friendly as possible. Anyone visiting it can click on a Maine map with the member schools and be instantly transported to that site for further information on athletics, academics or campus life at that school," said Jandreau.

Jandreau will update the site with information provided by Cloukey on a weekly basis. Included will be the latest standings, statistic information, upcoming events, the past week's highlights, and player of the week honors for the in-season sport.

Other information that will be updated on an as-needed basis will include the listing of All-Conference teams, including the coach of the year, rookie of the year, and player of the year for each sport.
