In 2005, a group of friends in Fort Kent who enjoyed choral part-singing got together and put on a modest concert. In 2006, still more friends from more towns joined. Last month, having successfully performed several choral concerts, the group decided to formally organize under the name "Forest Song."
"Forest Song" is now beginning its second spring season in the St. John Valley, and is inviting all those who have an interest in part-singing and music in general to become a member of the new and dynamic music performance group.
"Forest Song" is dedicated to creating music for the public enjoyment in the Valley. For its members it offers the enjoyment of participating in music creation in a variety of genres, and the potential for growth in the musical arts.
"Forest Song" welcomes members from both sides of the border. Membership is $20 (U.S.) a season for adults; $5 (U.S.) for students. "Forest Song" is co-sponsored by Christ Church Congregational, Fort Kent, and The University of Maine at Fort Kent.
The spring production will take place in early April and will include classical, traditional folk, and American gospel pieces for unison, SA, SAB and SATB voices.
"Forest Song" meets Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Christ Church Congregational, on Pleasant Street in Fort Kent.
The first meeting/rehearsal of the spring season will be held on Saturday, February 10. Christ Church is the little white church next to the University's main driveway. Singers under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
