The University of Maine at Fort Kent's two-day, hands-on Wilderness First Aid course on April 24 and 25, is nearing capacity. The April 17 and 18 session is nearly full, however, there is still time to register.
Classes, lasting from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., are fast-paced and intense, with an emphasis on practical skills. This thorough training will show participants how to deal with medical emergencies when they are miles from help
"This type of training is very useful for our area," said Donald Eno, academic outreach coordinator. Similar training has become the standard for organizations like Outward Bound, the National Park Service or other outdoor recreation and educational programs.
This class provides a three-year certification in Wilderness First Aid and CPR for those who successfully complete the course.
The total cost of the course, which includes 1 hour of academic credit, is $199.50.
