The University of Maine at Fort Kent Alumni Association has established an "Alumni Benefits Program" to reward alumni and friends who contribute to the UMFK Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.

The "Alumni Benefits Program" allows contributor to the scholarship fund the opportunity to receive discounts from participating St. John Valley businesses. The program was established as part of the Alumni Association's strategic plan marking its 75th anniversary year of service to the UMFK community.

An individual donor will be given a benefits card bearing their name, and if they are an alumnus, noting the year in which they graduated. The card also will include a listing of all the participating businesses and the special promotion that each business offers the cardholder.

The following businesses have agreed to offer special discounts for the "Alumni Benefits Program": The UMFK Bookstore will give ten percent off novelties and clothing; Dr. Richard Raymond of Fort Kent is giving five percent off services; Long Lake Motor Inn in St. Agatha will take ten percent off accommodations; Jake's Cleaning Services in Fort Kent, is offering ten percent off steam cleaning; Al's Tastee Freeze in Fort Kent will discount ten percent off all food orders; Shoes to Boot and Head to Toe in Fort Kent will take fifteen percent off regularly-priced merchandise; The Overlook Motel in Eagle Lake will give ten percent off on any two-night stay on accommodations, excluding the lakeside cabins; Valley Auto of Fort Kent is offering ten percent off parts and accessories and Ezzy's Music Shop in Van Buren will give one extra set of strings with the purchase of a stringed instrument, excluding pianos.

The alumni office sent over 200 letters to Valley businesses seeking participants in the program. All "Alumni Benefits Program" cards will expire in September 2008. The benefits card will only be given to donors giving to the Alumni Association Scholarship fund.

Individuals and businesses interested in participating in the "Alumni Benefits Program" are asked to contact the UMFK alumni affairs office at 207-834-7557.
