Bengal basketball players garner weekly honors

University of Maine at Fort Kent men's and women's basketball players earned honors for remarkable plays in two separate tournaments held at Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, Vermont on Saturday, December 3 and Sunday, December 4.

Jordan Allen, a freshman guard from Milo, Maine was named Sunrise Conference Rookie of the Week for his performance against University of Maine at Presque Isle in the consolation game Saturday at the Paul Bunyan Invitational. Allen had 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals in the Bengals 71-49 win.

Edmundas Akstinas, a sophomore of Vilnius, Lithuania was named to the Paul Bunyan All-Tournament Team for his steady play over the weekend as the Bengals split two games. Akstinas scored a team-high 11 points against Bates College and followed that up with an impressive 13 points, six rebounds game against UMPI. He had two high-light quality dunks on Saturday.

April Allen, junior guard from Milo, Maine was named Sunrise Conference Player of the Week for her performance at the Lady Hornet Holiday Classic. Allen grabbed a career best 16 rebounds in a loss on Saturday's game against Daniel Webster and back with a game-high 25 points behind 7-10 three point shooting in a win Sunday against Rivier College.

Freshman center, Amanda Davis of Wiscasset, Maine was named Co-Rookie of the Week by the Sunrise for her dominance in the post. Davis averaged 21 points in the two games. Davis was also named to the Lady Hornet Classic All-Tourney Team.
