Photo: French for Kids

December 4, 2008

(Left to right) Five University of Maine at Fort Kent students recently completed an afterschool French program with students at Fort Kent Elementary School.   Matthew Rice from Orrington, Maine; Jocelyn Chamberlain from Grand Bay, New Brunswick; Elizabeth Bulger from Coleman, Prince Edward Island; Janel Arsenault from Tignish, Prince Edward Island and Kelsey Bouchard from Benton, Maine. The students are enrolled in Dr. Katharine Harrington’s (far right) Teaching of French course at UMFK. The students created and taught the program that taught elementary students about the culture of three different French-speaking regions – France, Québec and Louisiana. The three-week afterschool program was taught entirely in French and incorporated songs, games, and arts & crafts. One activity included making a Mardi Gras mask, as seen here.
