The University of Maine at Fort Kent “ringing the bell” for student success, having once again been named as a “Best Northeastern College” by the prestigious publication, The Princeton Review. This marks the eleventh consecutive year running among colleges and universities in the Northeastern region.
This marks the eleventh consecutive year that UMFK has been selected as one of 225 outstanding colleges and universities that “The Princeton Review” recommends to college applicants in its 2016 print and online editions. The Northeastern Region covers eleven states: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and the District of Columbia.
The Princeton Review chooses its “best colleges” based upon institutional data it collects from hundreds of schools in each region, from its visits to schools, and from the opinions of independent and high school-based college advisers whose recommendations the group solicits. Colleges are selected primarily for their excellent academics.
“The Princeton Review, rankings of academic excellence,” says UMFK President Wilson G. Hess, “are especially meaningful because they also place great emphasis upon the assessment of the students themselves.” The Princeton Review also takes into account what report to them about their campus experiences in an 80-question survey. The survey asks students to rate their school's quality in a wide range of categories, from the accessibility of professors to the quality of the campus food.
“Teaching and learning at Fort Kent is student-centered and all about high-engagement,” says Hess. “The Princeton Review rankings recognize the importance of that approach to student success – putting students first.”
