The University of Maine at Fort Kent will offer an introductory session of Introduction to Global Positioning Systems (GPS) course, designed for community members to learn to use the state-of-the-art navigational aid and mapping device on Thursday, May 31.
The cost of the course is a non-credit free of $50. The session is offered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the GIS lab in Cyr Hall, Room 111.
The course is an introduction to the theory and application of Global Positioning Systems (GPS). Students will learn to work the GPS menus and how to navigate globally using a GPS unit.
The course will include GPS concepts and the basic map elements. In addition, laboratory and outdoor exercises will include spatial data collection and field navigation.
A limited number of Garmin GPS units will be available for use, or you may bring your own.
