The University of Maine at Fort Kent will be offering a variety of athletic summer camps and team weekends during the 2003 summer season to help prospective athletic stars hone their competitive skills.
Three week-long sessions of basketball instruction will be run by the UMFK men's and women's basketball staff and players. Campers will learn fundamental skills including footwork, offensive play, ball-handling, rebounding, and individual defense. The staff will also conduct various contests and provide valuable insight into the game.
The first session will take place at Wisdom High School in St. Agatha from June 16 through June 20. Another session will be held at the UMFK SportsCenter/Fort Kent Community High School from June 23 through June 27, and a third session will be held at the Eagle Lake Middle/Elementary School from July 7 through July 11.
The basketball camps are for students in grades three through twelve. The cost is $50 per camper.
Two team weekends will take place for high school boys and girls in grades eight through twelve, where teams will compete in a round robin format followed by a playoff. The contests will be officiated and awards will be presented.
The boy's teams will compete on June 27, June 28 and June 29. The girl's teams will compete on July 11, July 12 and July 13. The cost is $250 per team.
Two week-long soccer instruction camps will also be offered this summer. The camps will be run by the UMFK men's and women's soccer staff and players. Campers will learn fundamental skills such as passing, ball control, one-one moves, and tactical playing. The staff will also conduct daily contests and team-play offering many tips on how to become a solid soccer player.
The camps will be held on the UMFK Alumni Soccer Field. The first camp session is for girls and will be held from July 14 through July 18. The second session will be for the boys and will be held July 21 through July 25. The camp is open to students in grades three through twelve. The cost is $50 per camper.
Immediately following the individual camp instruction will be a team weekend, where the high school teams will compete in a weekend of games on the UMFK Alumni Field. The teams will play in a round robin format followed by a playoff. The contests will be officiated and awards will be presented.
The girl's teams will play on July 18, July 19 and July 20. The boy's teams will play on July 25, July 26 and July 27.
The team weekend is offered to high school students in grades eight through twelve. The cost is $250 per team.
