The Student Nurse Organization (SNO) at the University of Maine at Fort Kent will staff a “Safe Medication Disposal” booth for the campus and the greater Fort Kent community, as part of the campus’ Earth Day activities scheduled for Wednesday, April 22.

SNO volunteers will collect all returned medications at a booth located in Cyr Hall on the UMFK campus from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The medicines will later be disposed of properly.

All returned medications MUST be returned in their original containers.

Unused medicines in the home pose an accidental poisoning threat to children, and an invitation to abuse for teenagers.  Medicines improperly disposed of also present a threat to public water supplies and aquatic life.

“Every Day is Earth Day," is the theme that the UMFK campus community has adopted for a series of events planned for Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to celebrate Earth Day.

Interactive displays, informational presentations, poetry reading, special- theme meals, and a film showing will all be part of the campus-wide activities coordinated by the Environmental Studies program and the campus Ecology Committee.  ###
