Photo: Champions of Character

April 1, 2010

For a third straight year, members of the UMFK men’s soccer and basketball teams volunteered at the Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog Races. Volunteers helped set up and break down fencing for the races’ start on Main Street, and as dog handlers for the race teams. Shown here (L to R), handling some frisky Huskies, are soccer players Oniqueky Samuels, Jermaine West, and Barry Blake, all of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. Giving back to the community is part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ Champions of Character program, which establishes values that go beyond the playing field to help young people make good choices in all aspects of their lives.
