Web Defined:
The UMFK web site and affiliated subdomains will represent the official University of Maine at Fort Kent presence on the World Wide Web.  The presentation will contain a description of the campus, including its location, programs, and services.  The UMFK home page will be primarily dedicated to marketing the campus to prospective students.  Information and web based tools will be provided for prospective and current students, their families, UMFK alumni, UMFK faculty and staff, and the greater St. John Valley community.  UMFK web materials will be consistent with the University mission.  The Media Services department will provide assistance to other departments to ensure that their web needs are met.

Web Infrastructure:

  • Media Services is responsible for the design, construction, and technical maintenance of web pages on the UMFK web site and affiliated subdomains.
  • Media Services is responsible for maintaining a unified aesthetic throughout the UMFK web site and affiliated subdomains.
  • Media Services is responsible for constructing and maintaining the navigational framework of the UMFK web site and affiliated subdomains.
  • Media Services is responsible for constructing and maintaining databases related to the UMFK web site and affiliated subdomains.
  • Media services is responsible for the server infrastructure of the UMFK web site and affiliated subdomains.
  • Media Services is responsible for construction or overseeing construction of web applications and maintenance of those applications.

Web Content:

To ensure the accuracy of content on the UMFK website, offices and academic departments are responsible for creating and reviewing the content of their designated sections at a minimum of once per semester.  Email reminders will be sent out the first week of each semester.

Media Services will select tools that departments may purchase to facilitate the updating of web content.  Media services will provide training and support for these tools.

Web Hosting and Linking:

  • UMFK will not host web sites unaffiliated with the University.
  • Student and Faculty personal web pages may not contain advertisements, be used for commercial purposes, contain pornography, contain copyrighted material, or present a security risk to UMFK web infrastructure.  All student and faculty pages must contain a disclaimer stating that the opinions expressed therein are those of the page creator and do not reflect those of UMFK as a whole.
  • Students will be required to sign an FTP contract to gain server access.
  • The UMFK web site and affiliated subdomains will not link to commercial web sites.
