The University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK) is dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming environent for its community members, visitors, students, faculty and staff.  While it is recognized that many pets are well behaved, there are people who may have allergies or fears that could cause a pet to interfere with the ability of those individuals to complete their work or studies.

It is the policy of UMFK that pets are not normally allowed in University buildings.  In some instances, employees may leave pets in their personal automobiles during business hours, providing appropriate biological breaks and in complaince with local ordinances regarding the safety and care of pets.

This policy does not apply to service animals brought to campus to provide assistance to persons with disabilities.

All pets on University property must be properly restrained, i.e. on leashes, crated, or in a proper pet carrier, at all times.  Pets must not be left unattended while on University property, except as noted in paragraph II.  Owners of pets shall be held responsible for any personal or property damage inflicted by their pets.  Owners or caretakers of pets must clean up after their pets, using appropriate waste disposal equipment/supplies, at their own expense.

If you have any questions regarding this policy or observe non-complaince with this policy, please contact Human Resources.
