The University of Maine at Fort Kent will host its annual Fall Open House for prospective college-bound students on Monday, October 24 to give everyone a chance to experience campus life.
Registration and check-in are from 8:00 to 8:45 a.m. in Cyr Hall, followed by a light breakfast and refreshments in the Bengal’s Lair. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the Student Services that UMFK has to offer.
The morning will begin with opening welcome remarks from Admissions Director Jill Cairns, followed by representatives from various offices who will be available to answer questions on topics ranging from residential life, career planning and placement, to financial aid will be available for questions.
From 9 to 9:30 a.m., a student panel presentation by current students will talk about UMFK’s campus life.
Following the panel presentation, prospective students will learn more about the academic programs UMFK offers. The talented faculty, which fosters academic excellence in the learning environment, will show students and families how learning comes alive at UMFK. There also will be an opportunity for participants to ask questions to assist them in their educational goals.
Sodexo will serve lunch beginning at 11:15 a.m. at UMFK’s Nowland Hall dining room.
UMFK Student Admissions Ambassadors will lead campus tours, beginning at 12 noon, for perspective students to meet and interact with staff and see the campus.
All perspective students will have the opportunity to ask any additional questions about the campus in a wrap-up session at 1:15 p.m. Participants may even leave with some cool UMFK gear.
According to many current and former students, visiting the UMFK campus is the best way to gather information to help with a college search.

The learning opportunities at UMFK have become a model of a "rural university" that other New England campuses attempt to emulate. How do we do it? It's a simple approach. We create pathways to educational opportunity and professional success for rural communities and people by nurturing and engaging our students to become diverse learners and aspiring professionals. Our students take advantage of the most affordable, technologically-enhanced, and professionally-focused educational programs in the nation.
We use our distinctive rural-serving advantage to design and deliver rural education opportunities to provide graduates who are globally prepared and able to provide leadership to rural communities anywhere on the planet. UMFK provides educational access and services, which bring 21st century skills and leadership to people throughout Maine and the United States and from across international boundaries who share the values of rural life and work.
