The University of Maine at Fort Kent will host the Northern District (Aroostook County) Scripps National Spelling Bee competition for 6, 7, and 8 grade students on Thursday, February 6 at 6:30 p.m. in Fox Auditorium.
The 2014 competition is sponsored by Maine School Administrative District #27, under the supervision of Ralph Caron, assistant principal at Valley Rivers Middle School and Community High School.
The winners of the Northern District spelling bee will continue on to the State of Maine competition. The state winners advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee near Washington, D.C. during the week of May 26 to June 1.
Mrs. Joan Sylvain, retired faculty member at UMFK and member of the UMFK Foundation, will serve as bee master for the competition. Two UMFK students will serve as judges.
The spelling bee is free, and open to the public.
