The Praxis Series is an Education Testing Service program that provides tests for the State of Maine to use as part of its teacher certification requirements. The University of Maine Fort Kent requires the students to take and pass the Core Academic Skills for Educators Praxis Exams by the end of their sophomore year, and Praxis II Content Area by their junior year. Assessment Formats

Praxis consists of basic skills assessment in reading, writing and mathematics, which are available in a computer-based format.

Testing Dates & Registration

The testing date for the computer-based Praxis test is made by appointment only. Call the Praxis testing center nearest you. Fort Kent testing site is located at the University of Maine Fort Kent, 23 University Drive, Nadeau Hall Computer Lab Room 109, Fort Kent, Maine 04743. A complete list of CBT test centers is available online.

Test Takers with Disabilities

Nonstandard testing accommodations are available for test takers who meet ETS requirements. All requests for accommodations (e.g., extending testing time, large print test book, etc.) must be made on the Applicant’s Request for Nonstandard Testing Accommodations Form. Test takers with modifications to the standard testing environment or who have documented medical needs that require taking medication should submit a letter of support from a medical doctor or other qualified professional stating the nature of the disability and the modifications requested. Additional information regarding disabilities is available in the Registration Bulletin or online.

Test Takers Whose Primary Language is Not English (PLNE)

Nonstandard test accommodations (extended testing time) may be available for test takers whose primary language is not English. Test takers who meets ETS requirements will be allowed 50 percent additional testing time. Request must be submitted together with documentation to ETS six weeks before test dates.
