Parent/Plus Loan Application Process

Complete Steps 1, 2 and 3

About Parent/PLUS Loans

The U.S. Department of Education is the lender and the school assists them in administering the Direct Loan. The process is relatively quick. You can learn more about the Parent/PLUS Loan here. More information regarding Direct Lending is available at:

The application process consists of completing the following three steps.

Step 1: Complete the UMFK Direct Parent/Plus Loan (paper) Application

There are two more steps to complete the Parent/Plus Loan application. The next two steps can be completed in the same general area online. Details are found below.

Step 2: Apply for a Parent/PLUS Loan (online)

See details below.

Step 3: Complete the Direct Parent/PLUS Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) (online)

See details below.

About the Master Promissory Note (MPN):

When you sign a promissory note and receive loan funds, you are agreeing to repay the loan according to the terms of the note.

Except in cases where the loan is discharged (for instance in the death of the student) the loan must be repaid with interest, even if the student does not complete the program, did not like the program, or is unable to procure employment after completing the program.
