Parent/Plus Loan Application Process

Complete Steps 1, 2 and 3

About Direct Lending

The U.S. Department of Education is the lender and the school assists them in administering the Direct Loan. The process is relatively quick. More information regarding Direct Lending is available at:

The application process consists of completing three steps:

  1. Complete the UMFK Direct Parent/Plus Loan Application
  2. Complete the Direct Parent/Plus Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN)
  3. Complete the Direct Parent/Plus Request Process on studentloans.gov

Both items can be completed in Step 1, Step 2 and Step 3 below.

Step 1: Complete the UMFK Direct Parent/Plus Loan Application

Note: make sure to proceed to and complete Step 2.

Step 2: Complete the Direct Parent/Plus Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN)

About the Master Promissory Note (MPN):
When you sign a promissory note and receive loan funds, you are agreeing to repay the loan according to the terms of the note.

Except in cases where the loan is discharged (for instance in the death of the student) the loan must be repaid with interest, even if the student does not complete the program, does not like the program, or is unable to procure employment after completing the program.
