DESCRIPTION:The University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK) invites students\, faculty\, and community members to a presentation as part of its Scientific Speaker Series on October 29\, 2026. The featured guest speaker will be field ecologist and biologist Dr. Brittany Slabach. \nThe event will begin at 11 a.m. in Nadeau Hall. The talk is free and open to the public. \nDr. Slabach’s research centers on how dynamic landscapes\, environmental disturbances\, and human recreation influence wildlife communities. Her work spans a wide variety of species—including mammals\, reptiles\, and birds—utilizing field techniques such as wildlife trapping\, camera surveys\, vegetation sampling\, mapping\, and molecular techniques. \nDuring her presentation\, Dr. Slabach will discuss her passion for wildlife ecology\, highlight her scientific research\, and share her experiences studying wildlife in Maine and beyond. \nUMFK students can earn 500 Paw Points for attending the presentation. \nThis presentation is supported in part by Maine INBRE (IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence). \nFor more information\, please contact SamanthaBeaulieu\, UMFK Natural SciencesLaboratory Manager\, at samantha.beaulieu@maine.edu.

Diners will be able to taste several unique versions of the dish while also learning about its cultural history and deep ties to the St. John Valley. \n \nTheluncheon is free for UMFK students with a meal plan and for the first 50commuter students. DESCRIPTION:The Fort Kent Rotary Club invites sportspeople\, families\, and community members to its annual Hunters’ Breakfast on Saturday\, Oct. 31 from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the University of Maine at Fort Kent’s Nowland Dining Hall.   \nA beloved tradition community event inMaine offers a hearty meal to kick off hunting while supporting higher education opportunities. \nTickets are $15 per person. You may purchase your ticket from any Fort Kent Rotary Club member\, or you can pay at the door. Dine-in and take-out options available. \nThe menu will include scrambled eggs\,bacon\, ham\, sausage\, home fries\, pancakes\, toast\, coffee and juice.  \n“The Hunters Breakfast has long been a tradition for the Rotary Club in Fort Kent and is known as one of the longest running community events in the state of Maine.  We look forward to presenting a traditional meal for our great outdoor sportsmen and supporters\,said fellow Rotarian Bill Melvin.   \nIn addition to breakfast\, attendees can participate in on-site raffles featuring special items and a silent auction for 100 gallons of oil or propane.
