UMFK TO TAKE STEP TOWARD ENERGY INDEPENDENCE WITH CONVERSION TO WOOD-TO-ENERGY HEATING SYSTEM

The University of Maine at Fort Kent will take a major step toward energy independence next week, when it dedicates its new, wood-to-energy heating system. It is the first of two biomass systems that over the next two years will convert more than 90 percent of the campus from foreign heating oil to locally-sourced, renewable, biomass fuels.

169 students receive degrees at UMFK 130th Commencement

One hundred sixty-nine students received degrees at the 130th commencement exercises at the University of Maine at Fort Kent this past weekend. University President Wilson G. Hess presided over the ceremony that conferred 139 bachelor degrees and 32 associate degrees.

Fourth Annual "Young Artist Exhibition" at the Blake Library Gallery

The University of Maine and Fort Kent's Blake Library Gallery and Therese Provenzano, UMFK Adjunct Visual Art Instructor, will host its fourth annual "Young Artist Exhibition" featuring talented young artists from the St. John Valley public schools. The exhibit will be on display from Tuesday, May 15 through Thursday, May 31.

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Camp offered at UMFK

The University of Maine at Fort Kent will offer a Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Camp this summer for students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior years of high school. The camp will run from Sunday, June 24 through Thursday, June 28, 2012.

Nursing Discovery Camp offered on the UMFK campus

The University of Maine at Fort Kent will once again offer a Nursing Discovery Camp this summer. The session will run from Sunday, June 24 through Thursday, June 28. The camp is sponsored by UMFK's Nursing Program and with special support from Northern Maine Medical Center.

The Kappa Delta Phi National Affiliated Sorority of University of Maine at Fort Kent was awarded the President's Leadership Award at the 11th Annual Maine Campus Compact (MCC) Awards Ceremony held at Bates College on April 20.

UMFK Nursing Honor Society Inducts 25 New Members

Burning Green: In Search of Affordable Heat, a documentary film about biomass and home heating, produced by Dr. Soraya Cardenas' Environmental Sociology class at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, will premier this Friday, May 4 at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. in Fox Auditorium. Admission to either viewing of the documentary is free and open to the public.
