New for the 2012-13 academic year, UMFK's scholarship application can be completed and submitted online!   The new application process will save you time and the search process will be completed for you. You will find this process absolutely delightful!  We encourage you to apply.

UMFK's USM scholarship application can be completed online but you will need to print the completed form, sign it and return the paper version to UMFK.

Option 1:
This section has hundreds of scholarship opportunities. Some scholarships are funded by UMFK and outside scholarships by sources other than from UMFK.

Scholarship information, application forms and links are available.   Peruse the sections by selecting a category of your choice in the drop down box.  Read scholarship's eligibility criteria carefully. If you think you may qualify, apply. Application instructions do vary. Pay close attention to details and deadlines.

UMFK Scholarships are marked as such.  You may apply by clicking on the UMFK scholarship link at the top of this page.  Only ONE UMFK scholarship application is necessary to be considered for UMFK scholarships.  The deadline for the UMFK scholarship application is March 1.

A student's FAFSA information (for the appropriate year) must be on file with us at the time of scholarship review. To meet this time-frame, we recommend a student's FAFSA's be completed online at www.fafsa.gov on or before February 1 of each calendar year.

Scholarships awarded through the UMFK Financial Aid Office are for undergraduates only. Some scholarships have specific restrictions such as place of residence, major, etc.  Additional documentation may be required.

If you apply for and are awarded with a UMFK scholarship, you will be informed.  Awarded scholarships will be listed on your UMFK Award letter, which can be viewed in MaineStreet.

There are basically three different scholarship categories:

UMFK has made scholarship information available to help students who are interested in locating and applying for free money to help pay college expenses.

The three basic types of scholarship posted to our website are:

  • scholarships offered by the University also known as (UMFK) scholarships
  • the University of Maine System (UMS) scholarships
  • outside Scholarships

Note: the application form/process can be different for each type of scholarship.

About UMFK scholarships:  These scholarships are administer by UMFK through a variety of monies made available to UMFK, such as through endowments and donations, etc.  These funds are used to assist UMFK students with their college expenses.  If funds are awarded, the student will be informed.

About UMS scholarships:   UMFK is one of seven campuses within the University of Maine System (UMS) campuses.  Some (limited) scholarship funding is available to eligible UMFK students.   You can list many UMS scholarships names on one UMS application.  Return the completed application to the UMFK One Stop or the UMFK Financial Aid Office by the date indicated.  If funds are awarded, the student will be informed.

About Outside scholarships: These scholarships are from agencies and institutions other than from UMFK.   The application process will vary with each scholarship.  Read the information provided carefully. The student is responsible for completing the necessary application process.  For more information contact the resources that are made available online.
