2012 Future Outstanding Alumni • Theresa Biggs

Photo of 2012 Future Outstanding Alumni, Theresa Biggs Theresa Biggs, who will graduate in the spring of 2013, will be presented with the Outstanding Future Alumni award. The honor was given in recognition of her exemplary service to the campus community and her distinguished career as a student at UMFK.

Theresa Biggs has been involved in sports from an early age. She also has shown care and compassion for children and the less fortunate. Growing up in her native Cape Town, South Africa, Theresa devoted her time after school hours playing soccer. Her soccer skills were of the caliber that she represented her country on its 2007 national soccer team.

Theresa also volunteered her time to raise funds and handle the day-to-day functions of running several orphanages in her community. She worked with the destitute elderly, street kids, and AIDS orphans.

An elementary education major, Theresa plans to graduate from UMFK next May. She is a USCAA soccer All-American and a two-time academic All-American. She has been named to the USCAA's all-tournament team and to the Sunrise Conference all-conference team. In the classroom, Theresa has been named to the dean's list six times thus far during her academic career at UMFK.

Theresa has been a resident assistant in Crocker Hall; a member of the student conduct code committee; a residence hall council member; and chaired the Recycle Mania Project during the spring 2012 semester. This year, as a senior, she has been named as the resident assistant supervisor in Crocker Hall.

In her spare time, Theresa conducts campus tours, volunteers in Pat Richards' 2nd grade class at Fort Kent Elementary School, and reads. She is the daughter of Lettie and the late Mervyn Biggs. She has a younger brother, Rodney, and a niece, Skyla.
