Situated in the middle of the worlds largest ocean, the Hawaiian Islands are an ideal setting for students to explore a variety of ecosystems. The islands also have a rich cultural heritage, and afford students an opportunity to study geology and vulcanology up close. On top of that, there are endless miles of beach and tropical waters to explore.
From two separate bases on the islands of Oahu and Hawaii, students take daily excursions to study the rain forest and marine ecosystems. Travel by sail boat allows whale and dolphin watching, while lagoon wading and snorkeling take students to near shore marine communities. Hiking excursions take the group into rain forest and mountain zones, and on the Big Island (Hawaii) students will explore and learn about an active volcano. Students study flora, fauna and ecology as well as investigate environmental issues facing the islands. Additional tours, visits, and evening lectures introduce students to the interesting history and culture of the region.
