Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician

In order to be employed in the State of Maine as a Human Services Provider, the employee must have the MHRTC certification. For information on MHRT contact cfl_muskie@usm.maine.edu or see an advisor.

MHRT certified workers find employment at group homes, rehabilitation centers, community mental health agencies and working as aides to the disabled. The MHRT courses are available online from UMaine Augusta and U Maine Machias, and sometimes live at UMFK. A year of full –time supervised Social Work experience with a relevant topic can substitute for an academic MHRT course. For example, a year of work at a drug abuse-rehabilitation agency could be substituted for PSY 233. The clinical supervisor must be the one to request the substitution, and the request must occur during the working year. See the MHRT website or the program coordinator for more details.
